Happy New Year! New year, new beginnings. We have heard it all before and despite knowing that our new year’s resolutions usually fall by the wayside after a couple of weeks, we still make them, still start the year afresh.
No matter what kind of year last year was for you, making a fresh start and inviting in new thoughts and positive energy is always a good thing. In fact, ONLY doing this in January is a bit of a waste. Throughout the year, we can reaffirm our resolutions and intentions at various times. Here’s my rundown of when the best times are:
At The Start Of Every Month
It’s good to take a look back over your past month when the new month begins. This is a more frequent way of setting intentions. You can reflect on how you did, make amendments and start afresh. Why wait an entire year? This keeps you focused on your goals.
On The New Moon
This is similar to above only the energy of the new moon is perfect for intention setting. Energy is low in the world on the new moon so it is a good time to reflect. You then work towards your goals as the moon grows in the sky and becomes full. On the full moon, you can reassess and anything outstanding can be brought to fruition as the energy of the full moon brings about action.
On The Winter Solstice
The winter solstice happens in the Northern Hemisphere on 21st or 22nd December each year. It is the point of the year when the sun is furthest from earth, the shortest day, the longest night and the midpoint of winter. After the solstice has passed, the days become longer and the land warms up. This point of midwinter is perfect for setting new intentions. Each year on the solstice, I write down all the things that I want to let go of and all the things I want to bring into my life, then I burn the paper as a symbolic way of sealing in those intentions. This is an ideal time to get thinking about your new year’s resolutions as the solstice happens so near to the new year so it sets your mind to those new positive thoughts.
During Every Yoga Class And Meditation
If you practice yoga and/or meditate regularly, you will be familiar with setting intentions. This is the main aim of your practice. You can change it each time or keep the same one and observe as it evolves and changes as you do. Choose one of your resolutions to focus on and grow it as you practice.
Top Tips For Resolution And Intention Setting
Write Them Down
Keep a diary or notebook and date each entry. That way you can see the changes happening.
Be Realistic
If you set goals that you believe to be unachievable in your mind, you will give up on them. Start small as you get used to intention setting and you will see things become more and more possible as you go along.
Set Many Intentions
Setting intentions is the beginning of the manifestation process. If you want to bring new positive things into your life, then you should think of a lot of them. The bigger your list, the more you are likely to do. So, whilst it’s good to be realistic about the goals you set, setting many of them will set your mind to achieving them faster.
Take Action
Without action, nothing happens. If you want your resolutions to come to fruition, you will need to be actively engaged in making them happen. Beside each intention that you set, write down the steps that you are going to take to achieve it. This will keep you focused.
